I know the currency in Hong Kong is Hong Kong Dollar, but can I pay with RMB money without exchanging it first?|||I don't think so as this is not legalized. But you can always try as you may never know, they may just accept if they think is useful to them.|||Most of them will gladly take your RMB as it is currently much higher than HKD provided you agree for them to treat your RMB as the same value as HKD and allowing them to change HKD back to you. (They have the right not to accept it)
However whoever doesn't want to take your strong RMB is not in a proper state of mind (especially Taxi Drivers) coz there's plenty of Money Changer on the strrets of HK|||Nope... they don't sorry. the offical currency in HK is definately HKD. only those hugh chain's store accept RMB at ur convenience as RMB had it's bad name 4 finding fake bank's notes all the time. so HKnese doesn't take RMB personally. but u can exchange it easily everywhere w/i those shopping area w/ those currency exchange or in any of our bank. |||many will accept it, if it's 1:1, in other words if the taxi fare is 20 HKD and you give them 20 RMB, becuase they make more money this way due to the exchange rate. I've used RMB a few times in HK, but try to exchange it if possible when I'm there.|||Why would you do that? The taxi driver probably /would/ give you a weirded out look. They might accept it though, seeing as the RMB is worth more than the HK dollar now. But seriously, use the right currency in the right place.|||They will not accept anything other than the Hong Kong Dollar. You can exchange your money at the airport, in the banks or any one of the many exchange kiosks around Hong Kong.|||The taxi driver will probably just give you a funny look. The fact is that there are so many money changers around HK that it doesn't make sense to be getting around with RMB. Change it already.|||RMB is not always welcomed despite its rising value.
There are a lot of fake RMB notes around and people always check carefully before accepting them.|||yes they will accept it happily and smile at u. cos RMB is 'bigger' of value than HKD now. so many people in HK will rather keep RMB for future investments and exchange than having HKD.|||yes, you may. Just ask the driver before you pay. I know many stores and hotels take RMB.|||You'd better not
