If i intend to visit Shanghai for 5 to 7 days, how much RMB i need to bring? 1000 or 2000 Yuan enough?

no.

at least 3000 to 5000. lodging in shanghai is expensive. you are foreign so u won't know the transit system well right away. taxi can be expensive, you are most likely to be stuck in the gridlock for hours on a bridge or the tunnel during rush hours. only eat in nice restaurant, cheap dirty restaurant will get u visit toilets often and a waste of toilet paper.|||Well I once blew 1000 RMB in 2 days (1 night) and i am careful with my money.

Ok lets seperate out accomodation from other expensives.

Check out the webite www.elong.com and ctrip.com for hotel prices. You want to spend at least 200-300 on ok accomodation and 300-400 on good accommodation and of course it is Shanghai so the sky is the limit.

For expenditure, when it depends on how much you want to spend. 25-50 RMb per person to eat in a nice restaurant and 10-20 for cheap food (and eating on the street is an option and not that risky).

and 100-300 RMB for a really great meal.

Expenditure, well there isn't a lot to do in Shanghai and you will probably want to get out and about, so you would want to book tours and go to attractions that cost anywhere between 50-200 RMB to see.

Personally for everything I budget 300 RMB for budget travel, 500 RMB for a cheap trip and I would say most people would want to spend 500-700 a day on their trip.

2000 could be enough if you stay in a 150 RMB a night hotel, eat noodles and only most see what is free (which is a fair amount, but really only 2 days worth of travel)
