I was offered a job in Beijing, is 7,000 RMB enough to live by?

Also, i have a cat, can I bring her to live with me or is there a restriction on animals (supposing the dorm admits her).

"7,000 is enough to live off but it isnt very much! Having said that i was paid 5,000 rmb in local curency and i usually went over it - but i was paid 2,000 USD into my English account too. It depends on what sort of quality of living you want. It definitely would not be enough to save but everything is quite cheap so it may be alright. Beijing is lovely too. As for cats I know 2 people who took their cats to china so it should be ok.





If your friend needs any further help i do know a friend of a friend who lives in Beijing. Now is the time to go as well with the olypics around the corner. It would be well worth going even if the money is not great.xx "

Good luck in your decision.|||Hahaha!! They're paying you $100 a year?|||I'm not sure how you spend your money so i would not say it's enough or not. But i can provide you several references. A good freshly graduated undergrad from a very good university in China would have a starting pay of 4000RMB per month. A few of the undergrads or masters who are doing financial works can have a starting pay like 10,000RMB per month. But most undergrads would end up having 2000RMB-3000RMB starting pay.


For the cats, you can have your pet in beijing. But i think the transportation would be troublesome. You'd better check with the imigration.|||Think before you do it!!!!!!!!!! 7,000rmb in Beijing is a joke. I make 7,000rmb in Tianjin and that's good but Beijing has a higher standard of living and is more expensive. Also do not go for dorms unless you want to be bothered after class by students and living by dorm rules. As for food...well you're probably not going to want to eat there once you taste the food. Find a nice school that offers an apartment (single or double) off campus. Why...I learned the hard way, and got locked in every night at 10pm and wasn't allowed out! Or in! The pay also goes by your education and qualifications, the more you have the more they pay. Also see if they pay for your visa and expert certificate (also make sure they give you both...don't let anyone keep them for you). Beware of short time schools...they either want you to teach on an L visa or business visa, they make you pay for anything, or won't let you talk to other teachers at the school first. I call them short time schools because some schools disappear during the night taking your pay with them. Also make them pay for ALL medical expenses at a real hospital and will ensure that someone goes with you.

Also you might want to try Dave's Cafe (china section) or search the name of the school on line to see if any other teachers had problems there.|||it may be a struggle for you depending on how thrifty you can live and where you shop and eat. you are lucky that a dorm and food are provided , and I imagine you could manage on 1250 yuan per week


the average wage is much lower than this in Beijing and if you use your head, you will get by,


just be sure to make sure you have the money to pay for your trip home just in case things don't work out


I have no idea about quarantine restrictions for animals to get into china, but if their visa conditions for humans are anything to go by, it may be pretty difficult


take care and hope it all works out for you|||Yes, that is a LOT of money in Beijing. The average college grad can expect to earn about 2-3000 a month in the first year after school. As long as you're not one of those expats who always hangs out in westerner traps, you'll have more cash than you know what to do with.|||Yes, it will be enough. Beijing and Shanghai are more expensive then other areas of china, but you'll still have enough money to live comfortably. I wouldn't try to bring a pet there though. Fast food type meals are about 30 rmb or sit down 5 course meals for a family are about 300rmb.|||is this per month or year? 7000 is 920 US dollars acoording to exchange rate.|||if they are providing your housing 7,000 is really plenty, there are restrictions on bringing in pets, if you visit my answers to past questions you will find all the info you need for the cat|||yes|||really depends on how "luxurious life" you want in Bejing.

I assume 7000 is enough to live on, but you won't have that much saving for yourself at the end of each month.








As for cat, there would be restrictions for carrying it into China.|||i searched google and 7,000 RMB, aka Chinese Yuan is only 921.403 dollars...So if everything is really cheap in Beijing, go for it, but don't expect to come back to the States and be rich.
