Could i live comfortably off of 5000 rmb in Beijing?

My hosing is paid for.|||If you're coming here for a teaching job and are a native english speaker, 5000 rmb is a bit low on the pay scale from what I understand.



But, the avg white collar wage is ~5000 rmb a month w/o housing paid. So it's certainly a livable sum.



If you're a particularily picky eater, it may not work for you.|||If your housing cost is covered, you can live on 5000. Depends on what you expect to do though. Don't count on a lot of Champagne brunches at the Westin, but you can go out and party a bit in Wudaokou. I guess you are looking at a teaching job, so ask the students where to go do stuff. Don't be too picky about foreign stuff either... best be prepared to live fairly local, ie, a real pair of Levi's is about 1400rmb in the Levis store. A pint of local beer can run you 10rmb in some places, but a Guinness can run you 80 at others, so its really all about how you spend it.





The average worker in Beijing earns less than that in a month.|||Beijing??? Dont think so. But of course it depends on how your lifestyle is.


I live in Nanjing (cheaper) and dont do really much (1 time i go out "clubbing" in 2-3 month" meeting friends dont spend much money) and i live from around 1200-1500 RMB.


If i spend more and go to restaurants (not the small eateries) i can spend around 3000-4000 RMB THEN i have a comfortable life and go out more often.


(Careful for Party people, you also can spend around 3000-4000 on one night in a club)|||You can only live an ordinary life with 5,000 rmb for a month. Basically, half of your money will be spent on those basic needs like transportation, phone bills, food, clothes etc. You can use the rest to walk around or play for fun. I don't know whether this is the "comfortable" life you are referring to. Anyway, 5,000 rmb can only meet basic needs. Most people in Beijing do not think 5,000 rmb can afford a comfortable life.
