I am considering accepting a job in Shanghai as a Disney English teacher for children. The pay is 10,000-11,000 RMB per month. Also, I will be given a monthly housing allowance of 3,000-4,350 RMB per month. The flight is paid for, and dental and health insurance is paid for. I am hesitant to move forward with this job offer for a number of reasons, but the main one is will this monthly salary be enough to live comfortably?|||I teach English in Guangzhou, China. No contracts. All on my own. Private jobs and some private elementary schools. My Rent ( I pay on my own ) is 楼3,000/m add utilities 楼3,400/m
I make around 楼15,000 to 楼20,000 per month. Teaching 24 hours a week. No office hours. No paper work. No "boss" Taking the Low number of 楼15,000 and subtract the rent... I live comfortably on this. Even have a lot left over. I may only spend 楼4,000 after rent. It really depends on what you do. If you party and like to go to bars (Chinese and Western) expect to pay 楼35-楼70 per pint. If you will only eat Western food expect to pay 楼70 to 楼100 for a dinner. It's all about YOU. Your budget. Chinese food at local eateries an "hole is the wall" places is very cheap. But if you are like me I can't eat chinese food 24/7. So eating Western food a few times a month is well with in the budget. Night life will be expensive so that can be your biggest money muncher. 楼10-11,000 should be fine.|||The housing allowance is very generous.
How much you spend in Shanghai is up to you. You can spend a lot of money in Shanghai....but also in some areas spend little money.
I would say 4000--5000 RMB a month is a good amount of money to use in Shanghai. Assuming you don't eat pizza every day and go to foreigner bars every night, then there is no problem.|||It is enough if you are not a big spender. My mom's side of the family lives in Shanghai and know that most people in shanghai only get paid around 2k - 3k. Of course depending on your job. 10k-11k a month in Shanghai is considered pretty good. Shanghai is a very busy place. There are people everywhere you go and of course it is impossible to drive there. 10k-11k will give you a pretty good lifestyle.|||That sounds like a good opportunity to visit China!
I lived in shenzhen for a while and I cant eat chinese food everyday. We order take out for around RMB20.00 per meal. McDonalds would be around RMB 30.00 per meal. If youre a picky eater, you can just buy at Walmart and cook. Walmart or Carrefour would normally have all the popular brands.
Even with a weekly allowance of RMB 1000, you have a lot left for shopping and fine dining.
Try to get a place near work because taking a cab everyday could be quite costly.|||Yep, it's OK, just don't expect to save much and get rich. Make sure you have all this in a contract and never let them fool you in coming to China on a tourist visa first, have them start the working permit prior to you going.|||depands on ur daily needs.
for normal ppl ..it's enough
since u have the monthly housing allowance of 3,000-4,350 RMB
i think it's not bad at all|||if you get 15K or so and can rent for 3k, 12k is enough easily. eating, transport, frugal 500 a week, a little bit classier 1,000 a week. That still leaves 8000. 1000 a month will cover tax and bills - 7,000. allow 1,000 for phones, clothes, laundry, snacks, dvds, and other incidentals - 6,000. If you dont go out pubbing and clubbing you can save on that - if you go out every weekend, you will spend it all.
However, be aware, disney and the like work you hard. You will be in school 40 hours a week, evenings, weekends, split shifts. Your 2 days off a week may be Tuesday and Thursday. Do you have 2 years teaching experience? How long is their training period? etc
Honestly most teachers in China avoid such 'mills' - they are all about the money. and 15000 is decent, but its a lot of hours.
I get 10,000 for 14 hours a week, no office time. My teaching hour lasts 40 mins, therefore 10 hours class time. They pay my rent and bills - worth about 4,000 a month. They pay 12 months a year but i only work 8. During the long holidays and ample free time (I only work Mon - Wed in my main job) I easily pull in another 10 - 15 per month on side jobs. Tutoring can get you 300 an hour, 150 minimum.
Lots of people are doing fine on 6000 - 8000. You will be comfy on 14000 - 15000 - just be aware, 25000 - 30000 is possible
