if the rate isn't good for you -- you can exchange your money in China but in such case you'll need to provide them with the documents proving you have exchanged it from Canadian dollars to RMB or earned it (and where)...
i'm not sure whether the Bank of China is the only one that has the right to sell Canadian dollars but if i were you i'd ask that in several banks...|||The banks wont have Canadian currency, however they might have American.
Two options: when you get back to Canada you can exchange it, or check online and see what the exchange rate is, then see what it is at the airport when you land in Canada, and exchange it there. However, you get bad rates in Canada. In China it's difficult to change RMB to hard currencies if you have no previous change certificate.
I usually change with "friends" that need rmb if I have such situation.|||You're in Shanghai, don't limit yourself! Shop around, any bank with an Exchange sign (looks like a Y with two arrows through it) can do it. Compare rates and settle for the best one (Try the area surrounding Jing An Temple- I found at least 3 banks with an Exchange sign in a 500m radious around the subway stop).|||You can only legally take out 6,000 rmb out of China.
If anywhere is able to exchange your rmb into Canadian dollars it will be the bank of China. As there the highest top state run bank.|||Ring the banks directly and get a quote. It is quite a bit of money and even a small difference wold add up. Make sure to get the quotes as close in time as possible.
